User Story is a primary artifact used to define system behavior in Agile. It is a short description of functionality told from the user’s perspective. The focus is on why and how the user interacts with the software. Since not all systems interact with people a user story could also be system centric.
The User Story provides a key metric that allows for improved understanding of the scope and progress:
- “Wow, look at all these stories we are about to sign up for” (scope)
- “Look at all the stories we accomplished in this iteration” (progress)
